Why I'm Glad I became a Children's Fitness Educator

If there was anybody who was destined for a specific career, It was probably me. It all started when I was a Physical Education Major in college and, for the first time, got up to teach in front of a group of kids. As soon as I started talking/teaching it was like bells, whistles, and flashing lights all went off at once. It was like something inside of me just took over and things began to happen automatically. The next thing I knew, my instructor was praising my teaching behavior in front of my classmates saying something like "this is how it's done".

Of course, it wasn't all smooth sailing after that. I graduated, went on to become a PE Director at a private school where I learned effective teaching through making daily mistakes and learning from them. But what really kept me striving to do my best was the same thing most good teaching have, a passion for helping to make each child's life a little better.

I spent 14 years teaching at that private elementary/middle school and then went on to spend the next 18 years, and still counting, as a teacher and small business owner, taking school busues and turning them into mobile gyms that go around to various child development centers where pre-school children get onto our gym busses and take gymnastics based health and fitness classes. Through it all, my passion for helping kids continued to grow.

It was in 2002 that my career really began to leapfrog. With children's fitness levels continuing to decline throughout the US partly because of lack of physical activity, I got the idea of developing a system that would reward children for their physical activity and if that does not work, require them to be physically active in order to watch TV or play video games with the amount of physical activity time proportionate to the amount of viewing time. With my passion contining to guide me and with a lot of help, I recently developed the Physical Activity Reward System or P.A.R.S. at NewWayFitness.com, I/we are now in the process of identifying and sharing P.A.R.S. with all of those in need. Because P.A.R.S. allows me the opportunity to help more kids/familyes than I ever dreamed of, I continue to be glad that I became of children's fitness educator.
